Breaking News: “Road Rage” Dr. Christopher Thompson Gets Five Years
Reporting live from the courthouse, Danny Jimenez, aka DJ Wheels, reports that the defense's motion for probation was denied in the case of the Mandeville Canyon Road Rage Doctor. Dr. Christopher Thompson will receive five years in jail for intentionally causing a crash on July 4th that hospitalized two cyclists. Thompson received two years for assault with a deadly weapon for his attack on Ron Peterson with a three year enhancement for causing great bodily injury.

Christopher Thompson Sentencing Postponed Because of Potential Swine Flu Outbreak
For anyone looking for news on the sentencing of the "Mandeville Canyon Road Rage Doctor," you're going to have to wait until the new year. DJ Wheels, who has done the yeoman's work covering the trial for this blog and others, reports that the sentencing was postponed until January 8 at the request of the defense and over the objections of the prosecution.

Times Op/Ed on Bike-Car Relationship Reveals the Good and Bad of Thompson Fallout
Since the Christopher Thompson verdict was announced on Monday, many cyclists have reacted with dismay to the media coverage of the assault, the trial, and the reactions of other Angelenos on message boards and call-in shows. Cyclists were surprised at the venom shown by callers and mis-information from the host on progressive KPCC's morning show and other radio shows were just as bad. Surprisingly, some of the best coverage, was from the conservative John and Ken Show, the top rated radio call-in show in Los Angeles.

Road Rage Dr. Thompson Arraigned on 7 Counts (Updated)

“Damien’s Law?” Gatto Hit and Run Bill Clears Committee
Every time a cyclist is struck down by a negligent driver, especially when a hit and run is involved, I shudder. Since most of my on-bike time these days involve having a child either strapped to a seat behind me or nestled in a car-seat attachment in front of me, every crash leaves a scary reminder that no matter how safe I bicycle, I'm reliant on every passing car not to crash into me.
