Between May and September of this year, the lawsuit Public Counsel filed on behalf of the Labor/Community Strategy Center (LCSC) this past December 13 states, both Metro and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) failed to adequately respond (or respond at all) to multiple requests for public records regarding policing and fare enforcement practices, breakdowns of data on those arrested, cited, and engaged by law enforcement, and the agreements and communications between Metro and law enforcement agencies regarding law enforcement's role in policing transit. The family is afraid that a full accounting is a long ways off. Detectives told them that they may not have an answer or see the video of the incident until the investigation is complete - six months to a year from now.

Metro expects to see the preliminary (30 percent) design completed shortly and to hire a design/build construction contractor to finish the plans and break ground by mid-2018. The project would be completed in late 2019, around the time that the Crenshaw/LAX Line would be opening.

After years of discussion, light synchronization along the Blue Line in Long Beach is coming this fall.

Late last year, Metro finished pedestrian and other safety upgrades to eight intersections along the Blue Line. The pedestrian improvements finally taking shape at the remaining 19 intersections - 12 of which are in South L.A. - have been in the works for some time and continue to prove challenging.

The contract modifications will allow RNL Design to respond to issues that arose with the redesign of the transfer mezzanine between the Blue and the Green Lines. Namely, how to manage construction without closing the station and relying on costly bus-bridging services.

As the board prepares for this decision, it seems like a good time to remind both Metro and our law enforcement agencies that the passengers that have the greatest dependence on Metro are the ones who need safe passage the most. And right now, they're the ones who are least likely to feel like that is what they are getting.
