The UCLA Bicycle Coalition is partnering with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and the UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative to organize the West Area Community Bike Ride on February 9, 2013. The West Area Community Ride will roll along Westwood Boulevard and through surrounding neighborhoods, pointing out existing bicycle facilities and discussing some exciting future projects. The West Area Community Ride will be led by advocates and students from UCLA and the LACBC.

Registration for the West Area Community Ride will begin at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Ackerman Bus Terminal, 308 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, CA, 90095. The ride will pause to meet up with participants who want to join the ride south of UCLA’s campus, at Riddick Youth Center at 11:00AM, 2634 Overland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90064. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The West Area Community Ride is a project of the LACBC’s Ride Westwood campaign. The Ride Westwood campaign educates and engages community members around the issue of bicycle safety in Westwood. Specifically, the campaign works to build public support for the proposed Westwood Boulevard bike lane, part of the 2010 Bicycle Master Plan. Safer bicycle facilities along Westwood are critical for providing access to the UCLA campus, invigorating the business district along the corridor, and encouraging a more vibrant, healthy, livable community.

About the UCLA Bicycle Coalition

The UCLA Bike Coalition is a collective of students, faculty and staff working to make the UCLA campus and the surrounding area a better place to ride. We engage in political activism, advocate for bike-friendly policies and infrastructure, host rides, throw fun events, try to act as a resource for new bicyclists concerning bike shopping, repair, and maintenance.

About the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition

Founded in 1998, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) is the only non-profit organization working countywide for L.A. County’s 3 million cyclists through advocacy, education and outreach.
