Green Friday: A Truly Free Market

YouthBuild Boyle Heights Charter School will be collecting items to refurbish such as toys, clothing, electronics, home furnishing tools and appliances for the public to use for free. The cooking demos to make flaming hot kale chips, a pop-up bookstore, and other food demos are all ideas created by students at the school. Youthbuild Boyle Heights, which has more than 65 youth, is a charter school that teaches a curriculum based on social justice and environmental health.

Where: 202 N. Saratoga St. Los Angeles, CA, 90033.

When: Friday, November 16, from 2-6 p.m.

How can artists and the Eastside Generate Change Together? An open discussion at Self Help Graphics this Saturday

Self Help Graphics & Art, the School of Echoes, and L.A. Freewaves will be hosting an open discussion about the possibilities of Boyle Heights being an arts district. Questions such as what can an arts district do to Boyle Heights, how can it both capture, yet preserve the essence of the community, said Evonne Gallardo, executive director of Self Help Graphics. Local organizations, business, and artists are encouraged to attend.

Where: Self Help Graphics and Art (1300 East First Street, Boyle Heights, CA 90033)

When: Saturday, November 17, from 4-8 p.m.

Twenty-second annual Mariachi Festival at Mariachi Plaza

The day long mariachi festival from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will be happening at Mariachi Plaza this Sunday. This is a free event. The international farmers market, happening in conjunction with the mariachi festival, will have food and craft vendors. For a direct route to the festival, people can catch the Gold Line and get off at the Mariachi Plaza station.

When: Sunday, November 18, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
