How Can We Increase Pedestrian Activity on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena?
For awhile now, I’ve contemplated the perplexing question of “What can improve South Lake Avenue (an underperforming shopping district)?” and I’ve come up with my own conclusions as to why the moribund district performs so poorly.

CRA Unveils Draft Plans for South Figueroa, Public Mostly Positive
A standing room only audience descended on the Fashion Institute of Design on South Grand Street to listen to a presentation from the embattled Community Redevelopment Agency for a ground breaking and popular proposal to transform the South Figueroa Corridor. When people discuss Los Angeles' streets, they usually use terms such as "car-oriented" or "ugly." The new South Figueroa, aka My Figueroa, would be a truly beautiful street designed for people to walk, bike wait for transit or just enjoy life outside as well as a way to shuffle cars from one area to another.

The Act of Being a Pedestrian
It always amazes me how artists can capture new ways of walking in the existing built environment. The boring streets of South Park became a world of physical and sensual discovery through Being Pedestrian facilitated by Sara Wooky and Sara Daleiden last Saturday.

Pedestrian Friendly Ralphs Needed for Pasadena
Back in Jan 2010, I wrote about my disdain for the current suburban-styled Ralphs supermarket that sits in the middle of Pasadena’s urban downtown financial district along Lake Ave. This particular Ralphs that many of us Pasadenans shop at is surrounded by anti-pedestrian characteristics that actually harm the built environment as it pertains to pedestrian activity. Federal Bike-Ped Funding Sets New High, With Much More Room to Grow
Federal funding for pedestrian and bicycle projects reached a new high last year, according to a report released yesterday by the Federal Highway Administration.
In terms of dollars, federal investment in walking and biking more than
doubled compared to the previous high, set in 2007, thanks largely to
an infusion of $400 million in stimulus funds.
