SGV Connect 113 : Regional Connector Opens and Track Construction Finishes on the Gold Line

2:40 PM PDT on June 22, 2023

On Saturday, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority will host a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the light rail track system for the 9.1-mile, four-station Foothill Gold Line light rail project from Glendora to Pomona. The public is invited to the ceremony taking place this Saturday, June 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the D Street railroad crossing (north of Arrow Highway) in the city of La Verne.

During the event, the last of 230,630 rail clips will be driven into place (rail clips permanently attach the steel rail to the concrete ties), marking the completion of the new light rail tracks.

This week's first interview features Habib Balian, the executive director for the construction authority. Balian discusses what's next for the project and the importance of this milestone to the Gold Line and our regional rail network. To read a transcript of this interview, click here.

Speaking of Metro's rail network, our second interview features Streetsblog's own Joe Linton and was recorded the day that the Regional Connector opened through downtown Los Angeles. Linton discusses how the newly opened 2 mile rail connector is a key part making connections throughout the county - and how the San Gabriel Valley is now home to the 50-mile long A Line, the longest light rail line in the US, and possibly the world. SGV Connect is supported by Foothill Transit, offering car-free travel throughout the San Gabriel Valley with connections to the new Gold Line Stations across the Foothills and Commuter Express lines traveling into the heart of downtown L.A.
