StreetVids: See You Tomorrow at the Street Summit
Last night before the Janette Sadik-Kahn lecture, I had a chance to catch up with the folks who did the bulk of the planning for this year's StreetSummit and asked them for a preview. You can see the results above. That Joe Linton, so smooth in front of the camera.

Transit Industry Group Adds a Caveat to Its Stance on Operating Aid
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA), which has represented the transit industry in Washington for more than 120 years, has openly welcomed the year-long push
for Congress to relax longstanding rules that prevent large urban
agencies to spend federal grant money on their operating costs.

In Any Language, the Cost of Congestion Comes Through Loud and Clear
It’s not often that you get to
see your work set off a Eureka moment for someone else -- particularly
when that someone is from a different
culture. But I had that experience recently, and it seems worth sharing
on
Streetsblog in light of the interest shown today in my analysis of the travel
delay costs from FreshDirect deliveries.

Sadik-Khan Packs the House, Then Brings It Down
Last night, the L.A. StreetSummit kicked off with a rousing keynote
address and slide show by the groundbreaking New York City DOT
Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn. Three levels of Occidental College
students, bike advocates from around the county, and others interested
in Livable Streets packed the auditorium to hear Sadik-Kahn show the
changes that have come to New York City's streets under her and Mayor
Michael Bloomberg's leadership in the past three years.

Fixing a disputed provision in the jobs bill that President Obama signed into law yesterday
-- as Senate Democratic leaders promised House transportation committee
chairman Jim Oberstar (D-MN) following complaints by several members of
his panel -- would involve the redistribution of $932 million in
funding for two major federal road and rail programs.

Caution! Please Pass with Care!
When I first heard of the signs that popped up all over Los Angeles two nights ago urging drivers to pass cyclists with care, my first thoughts were that L.A.'s D.I.Y. culture has reached a tipping point. Not only have advocates learned that the LADOT and other city departments are unwilling to sacrifice car capacity to cyclist or pedestrian safety, but now they've learned that because of the city's fiscal woes, the city is unable to do anything about other people taking matters into their own hands.

Inhofe Questions Transit and Bike-Ped Investments in House Transport Bill
The senior Republican on the Senate environment panel today criticized the House's six-year transportation bill,
lamenting that the measure "focus[es] very heavily on transit, bike
paths, and sidewalks" and carves out a strong federal role in
"decisions historically left to the state level."

What Do You Want Streetsblog to Cover at the StreetSummit Part III
Ok folks, here we are at the last of three stories asking you to help me plan my weekend. So far the only comment I've gotten is Joe Linton encouraging me to go to the LADOT and DCP report on the City Bike Plan, which didn't even make my list of workshops which I was most interested in attending. If nothing else, I half expected Spokker to vote for me to go to a bunch of sessions that didn't have anything to do with bicycles.
