Dem. Senator Asks LaHood to ‘Put an End to’ Transportation Earmarks
When House leaders agreed last week to ban earmarks to for-profit entities, tax and transportation projects got a notable exemption.
But that doesn't mean Congress has no appetite to curb transport
earmarks, as Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) showed in a letter sent this
week to U.S. DOT chief Ray LaHood.

KTLA Shocked at Suggestion to Bike or Take Transit to Marathon Finish
About half way through the above video, KTLA's Eric Spillman talks to the L.A. Marathon's Peter Abraham about the transportation plan for people wishing to be at the end of the marathon. Under KTLA's banner of "Parking Problems," Abraham rationally explains that you should probably bike (free bike valet!) or take transit to the end of the race. That's when things go off the tracks if you will.

How Can Bicycles and Buses Better Share the Road?
Yesterday morning, Megan Charlop was killed by a bus in the Bronx
after apparently being doored and knocked into traffic by the driver of
a parked car while riding her bike. Anyone who regularly rides a
bicycle in New York City or or anywhere else knows that potentially
fatal bus-bicycle interactions are common. Conflicts between buses and
bikes are often created or exacerbated by double-parked cars or drivers
who open their doors without looking, but there is also often a lack of
clarity about how bus drivers and bicyclists should interact as they
share the road. As a result, it can be scary and confusing to ride
along bus routes.

A motion to allow them to do just that was heard at last week's City Council Transportation Committee Hearing, with a resolution expected at next weeks.

back on the Hill yesterday meeting with lawmakers as part of a broad
campaign for more investment in California infrastructure.

Rampant Excuse-Making for Fatal Hit and Run Drivers on PCH
Early Monday morning, 73 year old Amelia Ordona and her 67 year old sister were crossing the street when a car struck Ordona, felling her. Then, Ordona was struck at least six more times, and at least five of the drivers of those vehicles just kept driving, never stopping to see whether their car was responsible for Ordona's death.
