First, let me assure you that just because I'm moving farther west, Streetsblog isn't going to suddenly morph into a blog that only talks about the Expo Line, Santa Monica and the inner workings of the Mar Vista Neighborhood Council. I'm not going to start wearing light blue and make sarcastic comments about USC. Promise.

Senators began searching today for new strategies to connect local
planners with an ever-dwindling pot of federal infrastructure dollars,
even as a senior U.S. DOT aide declined to say whether the White
House's upcoming principles for the next long-term transportation bill would include funding specifics.

It’s On! Neighbors for Smart Rail File Suit Against Expo Construction Authority
As predicted, the Westside Coalition of homeowners and businesses opposed to the construction of Phase II of the Expo Line at-grade through portions of the Westside have filed a petition to have the certification of the FEIR for the project overturned. New House Jobs Bill Dominated by Aid to Cities
Soon after the Senate signed off
yesterday on a $150 billion package of tax extenders and unemployment
benefits that was promoted as a job-creation measure -- a bill that
lacked dedicated new funding for transportation -- Democrats on the
House education and labor committee were releasing their own jobs legislation.

Walk and Smell the Flowers
It says something about the country that we live in that the simple
act of walking to work can merit a blog post. But so it is. Today, at
her fine blog The Naked City,
Mary Newsom wrote about her experience walking the 4.2 miles from her
home to her office. She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. She often
writes about planning and transportation issues and has a great
understanding of livable streets issues. As she made her lonely way
along the street, she was able to experience in a different way how
completely dominated by cars her familiar landscape is, and what that

In a sure sign that the "30 in 10" plan to accelerate all Measure R transit projects to be completed within a decade, national media is picking up the story and praising Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for providing a new model of federal stimulus for America.
