Next week is Metro’s “Bike to Work Week” and Metro has planned a series of events designed to promote bicycling, including the popular Bike to Work Day.  At publication time, residents of LA County had pledged to commute a combined 110,000 miles on their bikes next Thursday.

Just to the east, our friends at C.I.C.L.E. and the City of Pasadena have put together a week’s full of biking events marking “Bike Week Pasadena.”  The week features five different ride events and concludes with the popular Urban Bicycle Commuter Expo.  The rides include the Tour de Pasadena on Wednesday and Ladies’ night on Tuesday.  To see a list of all the rides, click here.

But the highlight of the week will be the Urban Bicycle Commuter Expo.  Before the Expo, Pasadena Vice Mayor Steve Haderlein will lead a family ride (Angelenos, can you picture our hummer loving Vice Mayor Jamie de la Vega even riding a bike?).  After the ride,  the Expo has a lot to  offer in its own right, including a variety of bikes, live music, workshops, demonstrations, a rodeo for the kids and more.   At 8:00 PM enjoy the animated bike classic, 'The Triplets of Belleville', screened outdoors and under the stars in the picturesque One Colorado Courtyard.

Check back here, or at CICLE’s website for the Expo’s full schedule when it becomes available.

“Disrespectful” and “infuriating”: L.A.’s progress on making streets safe and accessible for disabled people stalled for decades
