The Week in Livable Streets Events
It’s a short week this week, which could be a sign that the summer slowdown is upon us, or that I’m about to get a lot of emails with event information. Never the less, the Transit Coalition has a nice headliner this week, Expo Construction Authority’s Rick Thorpe and the last Friday of the month is Critical Mass.

Tuesday – The city’s Bike Plan Implementation Team meets at 2:00 P.M. in City Hall Room 721. To get an idea what these meetings are like, check out reports from last month’s meeting at the LADOT Bike Blog and coverage from June’s meeting at Bikeside. As you might expect, the two websites present different views on the LADOT sponsored meetings.
Tuesday – The Transit Coalition meets for its monthly meeting. On top of their regular business, they also host a transit VIP, and this month’s VIP is very IP if you know what I mean. Expo Construction Authority CEO Richard Thorpe will give a presentation and answer questions. The meeting is always held upstairs at Phillipe’s The Original and will begin at 6:30. Tuesday – Meanwhile, the Bus Riders Union will be holding a screening of a documentary on the civil rights group’s early years made by film maker Haskell Wexler. Because the screening is being held in their offices, space is limited, so RSVP on their Facebook Page.
Wednesday – The City Council Transportation Committee meets to discuss, amongst other things, parking restrictions, removing parking restrictions and how the city is going to pay its portion of the Wilshire Bus Only Lanes. As always, the meeting is 2:00 P.M. in City Hall. You can read the agenda, here.
Thursday – The Urban Land Institute hosts a public discussion of how Public-Private Partnerships are becoming the new norm in development and transportation. The presentation begins at 6:30 in the Downtown. Get all the details, here.
Friday – Once a month, it’s the largest police escorted party in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Critical Mass. Last month, the LAPD estimated 1,300 riders rolled out of Wilshire/Wetern at 7:00 P.M. July is traditionally the biggest mass of the year, so if you’ve been wondering what it’s like to ride in L.A. with thousands of friends and a platoon of cops, this is hte month.
