Streetsblog L.A. was there, so we present this photo essay on Mad Men's producer-writer Tom Smuts' bike ride to the Emmy Awards. Smuts stated that he rode "to raise awareness of bicycle commuters" and "to support more bike lanes and better bike lanes." He actually rides pretty fast.
Unfortunately Mad Men did not receive any of this season's Emmy Awards. No word, though, on whether Smuts' controversial new Mad Men made-for-TV-movie (rumored to be about Don Draper returning to Los Angeles to retire and establish a livable streets advocacy organization) has been green-lighted yet.
Kudos to the talented Mr. Smuts, and all the other folks involved: L.A. County Bicycle Coalition, Tern Bicycles, L.A. Bike Trains, and even Garcetti's Great Streets Initiative. If Tom Smuts can do it, so can you.
There are seven L.A. County Reconnecting Communities grants totaling $162 million - about 90% of that goes to Metro's Removing Barriers project, which includes new bus lanes, first/last mile walk/bike facilities, bike-share, and more.
New bus lanes are coming to Broadway, Colorado Blvd., Crenshaw Blvd, Lincoln Blvd., Los Feliz Blvd., Santa Monica Blvd., Valley Blvd., Vermont Avenue, Westwood Blvd., Whittier Blvd. and many more city streets!
