Nearly completed, Santa Monica's excellent 17th Street bike/ped improvements include Southern California's first European-type curb-protected intersections

Up in the West San Fernando Valley is what appears to be the city’s of Los Angeles’ most substandard bike facility, and the city has all too many inadequate bike facilities to choose from. A stretch of De Soto Avenue has a three-foot wide bike lane, two feet of which are the concrete gutter. It’s at the intersection of De Soto and El Rancho Road, located in the community of Woodland Hills. It’s just one long block south of the Metro J Line (Orange) Bus Rapid Transit and bike path, and right across the street from Pierce College.

LADOT and CD1 improved the project's mostly just plastic bollards, added lots of 'wheel stops' - basically low plastic curb/bumps

The city is currently seeking input on three proposed options: protected bike lanes, European design curb-level protected lanes, and a ridiculous center-running bikeway

Culver City opted to install low-cost quick-build walk/bus/bike upgrades exactly where they are most needed - in its walkable historic downtown, connecting to its E Line station. The improvements are now under threat.

LADOT planning to replace "underwhelming" plastic bollards and paint treatment... with more plastic bollards, more paint, and added parking and added turn lanes.

The motion goes next to the full city council, and after that approval, city departments would report back within 60 days with recommendations on how the city can eliminate spot widenings
