The public is invited to attend a community update meeting to learn about next steps for the Westside Subway Extension. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the 5th floor Terrace Room of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art West, located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles (90036).
The first phase would extend the Metro Purple Line from the Western/Wilshire Station nearly four miles and add three new stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2014 and be completed for this section by 2022.
The meeting will focus on the various pre-construction activities that are anticipated to occur over the next 12 to 18 months. This includes advanced soils testing in the vicinity of the La Brea Tar Pits, utility relocation, continued engineering and design, and property acquisition.
Residents, businesses and property owners near Wilshire/Western, Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega are especially encouraged to attend. Spanish and Korean interpretation will be provided.
The nearly nine-mile extension of the Metro Purple Line subway from Wilshire/Western to the Westwood/VA Hospital will extend high-capacity, fast, frequent, and reliable Metro Rail subway service to one of the most dense and jobs-rich areas of Los Angeles County.
The line will include seven new subway stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, Wilshire/La Cienega, Wilshire/Rodeo, Century City, Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital. About 49,300 people are forecasted to board the line at these seven stations. Passengers will be able to travel between downtown Los Angeles and the Westwood/UCLA Station in about 25 minutes.
The meeting will include an open house period as well as a formal presentation. Metro staff and consultants will be available to provide additional information and respond to questions. The location is served by Metro Lines 20, 217, 720 and 780. Validated vehicle parking is available in the Museum’s 6th Street underground garage. Enter from 6th and Ogden.
Special accommodations are available to the public for Metro-sponsored meetings. All requests for reasonable accommodations must be made at least three working days (72 hours) in advance of the scheduled meeting date. Please telephone the project information line at 213.922.6934 or dial 711 for the California Relay Service.
