Coming Next Friday, the “Where the Train Used to Go” Fundraiser and Bike Ride
Next Friday at 7:00 P.M., the second Los Angeles Streetsblog fundraiser will roll out of the Flying Pigeon Bike Shop (3714 Figueroa Street) at 7:00 P.M. We'll be doing a relaxed pace, nearly-ten-mile ride visiting many of the former transit stops of the old trolley cars in Northeast L.A. You can see our probably route here, but to find out why certain stops were selected, you're going to have to join us.

SANBAG Presents the Big Picture
At its May 12, 210 meeting the Board of the San Bernardino Associated
Governments (a Council of Gvernments/planning entity) viewed a
remarkable power point presentation its staff had prepared. In just 34
pages it gives policymakers a peek at the yawning challenges facing our
region. It doesn't offer any solutions but at least gives a fair
picture of the magnitude of the problems. Which is a starting point for
engaged and informed discussion.

Welcome to the Blogroll: More Than Red Cars
The new year heralded a new blog devoted to “The Obscure, Offbeat and Half-Forgotten Transportation History of Southern California”, Charles Hobbs’s More Than Red Cars. At Westwood and Le Conte, It’s “30 Seconds of Awesome”
This certainly isn't what the LADOT installed "Scramble Crosswalks," i.e. "Barnes Dances" i.e. "pedestrian-only diagnol signals" at a handful of intersections. College students playing in the street? I admit that when I first got an email urging me to check out the spectacle known as "30 Seconds of Awesome" I was skeptical. But after talking with the organizer, professor and some of the participants, there was more going on here than just playing in the street. This was a living and moving demonstration that demands open space and embraces the urban form similar to the more recognized events such as Park(ing) Day or Critical Mass.

APHA Tallies ‘Hidden Health Costs’ of Transportation Status Quo
The nation's transportation planning process fails to account for more
than $200 billion per year in "hidden health costs" imposed by traffic and air
pollution, according to a new report from the American Public Health
Association (APHA) that maps the nexus between infrastructure and
health care.

Help Me Cover Bike to Work Day
Sammy and I are off on the Baby Bike to visit the Helen's Cycles Pit Stop for his first Bike to Work Day experience. I'll have pictures up in a little bit, but I'm pretty sure that there's one or two more pit stops around L.A. County. Send me your Bike to Work Day pictures, or leave a link in the comments and I'll post as many of them as I can.
