Thanks to Our Sponsors, Next Week’s Party Is Looking Great!
I've been back in town for less than twenty four hours and next week's party and fundraiser is really coming together. We picked up food sponsorship from Ralph's and Trader Joe's and finalized the donation for 120 long necks from our friends at New Belgium Brewing. We'll have some other home-made goodies on hand for Wednesday so expect a good spread, including some things I'll be making myself.

Another Programming Note…
I wanted to say thanks for the tweets, stories, emails and every other way people showed support after Thursday's announcement. We're excited about the next steps we're taking and it's good to know so many of you are backing what we're trying to do. It's also really gratifying to be able to keep writing to all of you through Streetsblog after having to make the kind of announcement we made last week.

“Summer Night Lights” Makes the Case for Livable Streets
Yesterday, the Mayor's Office announced the expansion of the popular "Summer Night Lights" program, which keeps the lights on at 24 recreation centers and parks in some of the high crime areas around the city. The purpose of the program is to provide a fun, reliable and safe alternative to gang-life for youths around the city. By keeping the lights on, and organizing events such as basketball leagues the city wants to get kids off the streets to divert their energy somewhere safe.
