High Desert Corridor Highway Project Continues to Morph Right in Front of Our Eyes
There's no way to look at the proposed "High Desert Corridor" Project and not see a mammoth highway project. The 63 mile project will add hundreds of freeway lane miles between the City of Palmdale in L.A. County and the quaint sounding Town of Apple Valley in San Bernadino County. The highway will be up to eight lanes in some sections and as "small" as two lanes in others.

I'll be joined by Eric Bruins, Planning & Policy Director for the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, Deborah Murphy, the Executive Director of L.A. Walks, and Mark Valianatos, professor at Occidental College and the Policy Director of the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute. The series is produced by Matthew Tinoco.

The Los Angeles Streetsblog team is taking tomorrow off, but we'll be back on Thursday and Friday with our regular coverage. I know Kris is working on a story on a recent Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council meeting, I'm working on an update to A.B. 904 which would eliminate parking minimums in certain situations and Gary and Sahra are working on updates in South L.A. and Santa Monica.

After the Fireworks, There is Still Fun to Be Had on Bikes This Weekend
Last July, the Peace, Love and Family ride took a couple hundred riders on a tour through some of the major corridors of South L.A. before returning to a festival at Manchester and Vermont to show people that the streets could be sites for recreation.

Tuesday, Streetsblog introduced a six-part series by Mark Vallianatos looking at how city leadership can start truly integrating land use and transportation in the six geographic zones he outlined: parks, hills, homes, boulevards, center and industry.
