This morning, Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell opened a new public bike repair stand. The repair stand is located at the Sunset Triangle Park Plaza.

O’Farrell Dedicates New Virgil Ave. Bike Lanes
On Saturday, Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell hosted a bike lane dedication for a half-mile of new north-south lanes on Virgil Avenue between Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose. The project includes all new pavement, bike lane and Continental Crosswalk striping, as well as removal of peak hour parking restrictions.

The Clock Approaches Midnight for the Riverside-Figueroa Bridge
It was just over two years ago that I first heard that the Riverside-Figueroa Bridge over the L.A. River was doomed for demolition to make way for a newer version that would be built right next door. Despite its historic designation, it is the only mixed concrete and steel truss bridge crossing the L.A. River, I was resigned to seeing it go and just quietly said goodbye. The bridge was built in the 1920's and rebuilt in the 1930's, and it seemed it was just time for the bridge to go.

Hyperion Hearing: It’s Not About Bikes, It’s About Communities and People
If you were keeping score at home, something which would be impossible because of our failed attempt at Live Streaming, it was a blowout. Nearly fifty speakers took to the podium. Four of them spoke in favor of the current design. The rest made the case for a more Livable design, lower speeds, and better access for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Public Safety Committee Acknowledges the Hit and Run Crisis, LAPD Not So Much.
In Los Angeles, according to LAPD crime statistics for 2011, 1273 cyclists and pedestrians were victims of hit and run crimes. In other words every single day, 3 or 4 cyclists and pedestrians become hit and run victims within Los Angeles city limits. Of these, 26 people walking or biking died as a result of the collision in which a motorist fled the scene. Another 10 victims were killed while in cars.
