As Council Heads to Chambers Today, a Plea that It Abandon the Do-No-Harm-to-Landlords Doctrine
While arguing to limit the grace period tenants would have to pay back any missed rent to six months during the marathon city council session last Tuesday, March 17, Second District councilmember Paul Krekorian beseeched his colleagues to consider the Hippocratic Oath - the pledge physicians make to do no harm - and not enact policies that could have far-reaching negative consequences... for landlords.

LAPD Continues to Investigate Bombs Left at Future Bridge Housing Project in Venice
Last Thursday evening, security for the bridge housing project under construction in Venice called the LAPD to investigate suspicious packages left on-site and near the property. After evacuating the area, including residents from nearby homes, the LAPD determined that the objects were bombs, or at the very least were intended to look as though they were bombs, but were so poorly crafted that they posed no threat to the community.

Homelessness Coverage that Punches Down: Could We Just Not?
Three years ago, I got an email asking me to cover the extent to which a homeless person was infringing on the rights of bus riders by taking up residence at a bus shelter. The city had posted notice it was going to do a clean-up there, the sender said, but the deadline had passed and he was beginning to lose patience.
