Federal Government: CO2 Emissions Growing from Transportation Sector
For as long as the government has been keeping track of such things, the amount of greenhouse gases put into the environment by the transportation sector has grown year by year. Growing at almost the same speed has been the amount of miles people travel in their cars. With CA spending more and more efforts to deal with vehicle emission standards, it is worth noting that one of the easiest ways to reduce Carbon and other Greenhouse emissions is to reduce people's need to drive their cars.

The I-5 Widening EIS’s Incomplete Traffic Study
By now, it’s too late to defeat the proposed widening of the I-5 between the vicinity of SR 91 and I-605 in Los Angeles County. The Final Environmental Impact Statement, which is mercifully available in English, was released this summer, meaning the chance for the public to comment officially is over. Unofficially, it’s never too late to kill a project until the spades are in the ground.

Metro’s goal: 5% ridership growth every year for 5
At last week’s meeting, the METRO board adopted a new five year ridership plan. Metro’s goal: to increase ridership by 5% every year for the next five. Metro also noted that even with a "restructured" fare that ridership grew by an average of 4% for each of the last three years.

FHWA: CA Will See Over Double Truck Traffic in 30 Years
In 2005, the Tri-State Transportation Campaign released a report showing that heavy truck traffic in New Jersey would grow by 80% by 2020. The report's numbers were based on FHWA projections based on figures from 1998.
