Past Meets Future Koreatown Walk
You’re invited to explore one of Los Angeles’ most fascinating neighborhoods: Koreatown. Also known as Wilshire Center or Ktown, this neighborhood stands at the intersection of Los Angeles’ past and its possible future. Along this walk, lead by Walk Ambassador David Barboza, a former Ktown resident who works as a city planner for the City of Lakewood, we’ll learn about the historic buildings, subway service, stunning cultural diversity, and generate lots of food for thought about what makes a place good or bad to walk (plus there’s lots of non-metaphorical food for hungry pedestrians!). Highlights include architectural gems like the Bullocks Wilshire building and quirky sights like a multi-story driving range. The walk also explores some of the streets around Wilshire, to give a sense of the City you won’t find on a postcard.

LADOT Pilots “Pedestrian First” Timing on Broadway
It seems like a simple concept. If you give pedestrians a walk signal before giving cars the go-ahead, pedestrians crossing at intersections will be more visible and crashes and injuries will be reduced. For a century, the hearts of Angelenos have belonged to cars and to flying machines, not trains–even though we never would have become a city without the railroad, and couldn’t survive as a global trade center without the rail links to our seaports.

APA LA: Planning for the Sharing Economy
Technology is fundamentally changing the way we live, work, and use space. Cities have always facilitated the sharing of space, infrastructure, and culture, but our newfound connectivity is elevating the "sharing economy" to a level with impacts for land use and transportation planning, economic and community development, and sustainability. As these new models challenge current practices, outdated rules, and vested interests, how can planners and policymakers best capture their positive and negative effects?
