Westside Urban Forum: SHIFTING GEARS, Bicycle Mobility on the Westside

SHIFTING GEARS:  Bicycle Mobility on the Westside

Friday, February 20, 2015

Los Angeles is no Copenhagen. And yet, throughout the city, bicycle infrastructure is expanding, and bike culture is exploding. CicLAvia events have given cycling center stage and attracted enthusiasts from all walks of life. The Westside, though, maintains a fraught relationship with this resurgent form of transportation. While many Westsiders treasure their road bikes and weekend rides, commuters still face some mean streets. The Westside may be poised for a bicycle revolution. It will be stoked by the updating of Metro's Westside Mobility Plan, proposals for miles of bike lanes, bike share in Santa Monica, and planners' growing enthusiasm for cycling's role in reducing congestion, pollution, and obesity. Please join WUF's panel of bike advocates, transportation planners, and community experts to discuss how the Westside can change gears.

Panelists
Aaron Pauley, Co-Founder & Executive Director, CicLAvia
Francie Stefan, Strategic Planning & Transportation Manager, City of Santa Monica
