A Call for a Temporary Cease Fire in the Westside Subway Wars – Op/Ed by Damien
Last week, the Century City Chamber of Commerce along with a couple of homeowner groups and L.A. City Councilman Paul Koretz held a press conference making their case for a Westside Subway stop at Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Avenue. The week previously, the CCoC launched a website, responding to a website launched by consultants for the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce which promoted a subway stop at Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Avenue. Today, a rebuttal to the press CCoC/Koretz press conference was published in the Huffington Post.

Chalk on the Ground, Bike Lanes in the Gutter, Faster Cars: A Wilbur Ave. Update
When we last checked in on the embattled Wilbur Avenue Road Diet, Councilman Greig Smith had ordered asked the LADOT to move forward with a "compromise" proposal that would maintain continuous bike lanes along the 2.3 mile diet but would return the northern .3 miles of the old diet to a four lane road. The merge will occur just south of the lighted intersection at Devonshire where four lanes will go to three and the reduced diet will begin

Transit’s Identity Crisis: Social Service or Economic Engine?
Increasingly, transit investments are framed in terms of economic development, rather than public service. Cities conceive of new rail lines with the condo developer or tourist in mind, ignoring the low-income commuter who can’t afford a car and the senior who relies on transit to get to the grocery store.

City Council Approves 7.7 Mile Route for Wilshire Bus Only Lanes, Asks Metro to Consider 8.7 Mile Route
Next week, the County Board of Supervisors will meet to vote on the Wilshire Bus Only Lanes proposal to decide the county's official position on the three potential routes. However, the main drama over the proposal ended earlier today when the Los Angeles City Council approved alternative A1 for the proposal, the 7.7 mile route along Wilshire Boulevard excluding Beverly Hills, Condo Canyon and Santa Monica but including Brentwood.
