Cycling: What’s Holding Women Back?
The question of why more women aren’t cycling is a subject that could probably fill volumes. But it doesn’t get enough play on blogs of this type.

Regional Connector Updates Kick Off Later This Morning
It may be less than 2 miles long, but the Regional Connector is hailed by many as the most important of all the Measure R transit projects. When we last checked in, the Metro Board of Directors had voted for a fully underground Light Rail line that will connect the Gold Line to the Blue Line and future Expo Line. Today, Metro staff will update the public on how the project is proceeding, including how to attract riders that would have accessed transit on the Fifth Street Station that will likely not be included in the project.

Streetfilms with Español: Black Kids on Bikes
The great David Barboza strikes again with Spanish subtitles for an "L.A. Streetfilm," and again he chooses one of the films created by a local film maker. Ivy London's: Black Kids on Bikes was our first effort to produce a Streetfilm locally and focused on one of L.A.'s many famous group rides, although one that doesn't get the same press as Critical Mass or Midnight Ridazz. The BKoB ride is all about creating community and a place for inner city kids to ride safely and ride in a group. A great film which could use a second play regardless of whether or not you want or need to read the subtitles.

While the Council is debating and discussing a lot of complicated issues, it's taking its eyes off the ball when it comes to transportation planning.

The Week in Livable Streets Events
This is by far the busiest Week in Livable Streets Events calendar we've ever done. It's pretty amazing to see all of the different things happening this week. City Council, Metro Board of Directors and at the end of it all a very interesting Critical Mass.

Bipartisan Policy Center Proposes Major Redesign of Federal Funding
With the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee set to introduce its reauthorization bill the first week of July and the Senate EPW Committee already behind on its own timeline to introduce its own, think tanks and policy groups have a limited amount of time left to influence the process. The Bipartisan Policy Center got into the act yesterday with its report, “Performance Driven: Achieving Wiser Investment in Transportation.”
