Rich People Love Sidewalks, And Other Livability Lessons From USDOT
When asking people what transportation options are important in their communities, why do poll-takers never ask them to choose between different options? Here comes another survey in which people say they want everything and are never asked to make the tradeoffs that come in the real world.

Bundy Triangle Park Revisited: Is One of These Not Like the Other?
This spring, livable streets activists on the Westside began working with L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl's office to reopen Bundy Triangle Park. A May 9 Streetsblog article titled, "Open Space Behind Bars," looked at the history of the park: when it opened, why it closed, and what can be done to transform it into a vibrant public space.

Regional Connector Updates Kick Off Later This Morning
It may be less than 2 miles long, but the Regional Connector is hailed by many as the most important of all the Measure R transit projects. When we last checked in, the Metro Board of Directors had voted for a fully underground Light Rail line that will connect the Gold Line to the Blue Line and future Expo Line. See You Tonight…

Gloria Ohland: Why Streetsblog Matters
I started working on transportation issues in 1995, back when advocates for transit, bikes, pedestrians and smart growth were a minority voice in the media — if we got into the media. Fast forward to 2011 and Streetsblog totally owns these issues and commandeers its own communications channel. Every time I want to call Damien and propose a story about how they’re testing the Expo Line, or the disagreements among people who are otherwise allies over the TOD parking reduction bill (AB 710), or Senator Boxer’s encouraging remarks about America Fast Forward and the transportation reauthorization, I look on Streetsblog and Damien has already posted a story!
