The Week In…

Tuesday - I bet there's a lot of great events scheduled for May Day that would be of interest to the Livable Streets community.  Let us know if we've missed any in the comments section.  East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice, Pacoima Beautiful, Communities for Better Environment, and La Causa, along with community members from the South East Los Angeles area will be marching in solidarity with migrant and workers’ rights.  The march starts at 1:00 P.M. at Olympic and Broadway.  Get the details, here.

Tuesday - The Transit Coalition holds their monthly meeting at Metro Headquarters.  Get the details on guest speakers and food order arrangements and all the rest of the news that you need right here.

Along with Park(ing) Day and CicLAvia, Earth Day has always been one of the best holidays on the Livable Streets Calendar.  Whether it's going on a bike ride, or planting a tree, there are literally thousands of ways to make the world a greener, better place right in your local community.

The next two weeks tend to be quieter than usual with Easter and Passover celebrations and services popping up on the schedule.  Nevertheless, there are some big ones out there, including decision day at SCAG.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - Apparently there's this plan to completely demolish Beverly Hills High School (hey, I read the Courier) that Metro is pushing that will also allow them to build a subway extension.  Weird.  How have I not heard of this before?  There are meetings scheduled from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. this week to discuss the planning.  Get all the details off our calendar section, or by clicking on that advertisement to the right.

Monday - The American Society of Civil Engineers hosts a luncheon with speakers discussing the "Bringing Broadway Back" and other possibilities for the Downtown Streetcar.  Get the details, here.

Wednesday, Thursday - The Metro Board of Directors committees meet this week, and there's already a lot of buzz about new rail cars, locking gates and an alternatives list for the Downtown Streetcar.  And aren't they supposed to talk about the Regional Connector too?  Get all the committee agendas, right here.

Tuesday - A group of bicycle and pedestrian safety advocates including Roadblock and L.A. Walks' Deborah Murphy are basically launching a "Citizen's Campaign for Safer Streets" with a short presentation planned at the LAPD Police Commission.  Get the details at KCET's "One Ride at a Time."
