Temporary Parklets Occupy Parking Spaces During Park(ing) Day L.A. 2015
In spaces around the world, Park(ing) Day happens annually on the third Friday of September. Groups take over parking spaces, feed the meter, and create and occupy temporary parklets. It all draws attention to the potential for small urban spaces, and the high opportunity cost for turning over so much urban land to storing private automobiles.

Celebrate Park(ing) Day at the Park or at Your Desk
While it may be missing much of the fanfare of previous years in Los Angeles, Park(ing) Day is still one of the happiest days on the Livable Streets Calendar. Across the world, people will gather in car parking spaces, feed the meter and turn publicly subsidized personal property storage into a public mini-park.

Park(ing) Day in Pacoima Is Always Beautiful
A lot has changed for Pacoima Beautiful since I visited their Park(ing) Day in 2011. Max Podemski, who was featured heavily in our Annenberg Series on their efforts, has been in New York for nearly two years. Their executive director in 2011, Nury Martinez, now sits in the Los Angeles City Council.

For those of you that have been reading Streetsblog for awhile, you know that Park(ing) Day is a sort of unofficial holiday around here. In 2008, I toured 14 spaces by myself. In 2009, I had a small crew, and we made it to 13 spaces.
