Metro Board Doesn’t Trust Staff, Removes Selby/Comstock Segment from Wilshire Bus-Only Proposal
Following nearly an hour and fifteen minutes of public testimony, most of which overwhelmingly favored passage of the staff recommendation to complete the Wilshire Bus Only Lanes on all parts of Wilshire Boulevad controlled by the City of Los Angeles, the Metro Board of Directors unanimously backed transit expert Zev Yaroslavsky over their staff and LADOT staff and decided to remove the Comstock/Selby area of Wilshire in Westwood from the project.

On Street Parking Debate Highlights Transportation Committee Agenda
A new front in the debate over on-street bike parking opens this week with a motion by Councilmen Bill Rosendahl and Paul Koretz that asks the city to study allowing residents to park in front of their own driveways and garages on the street. The motion will be debated as part of the City Council Transportation Committee Hearing that begins tomorrow at 2:00 P.M. at City Hall.

Rahall Responds, Says His Transpo Record Is About More Than Just Highways
Earlier this month, we reported that Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV) was in the running for Ranking Member on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in the House. We mentioned our alarm that his ideas about transportation seemed limited and road-centric – specifically, that his website’s issue page on transportation mentioned only highways, water, and broadband. Got us wondering what he thought about bike-ped access and transit.

Transit People’s Free Advice for Mayor, Metro on Free Transit Passes for Field Trips
Earlier this month, Mayor Villaraigosa, who also serves on the Metro Board of Directors, proposed that the transit agency give free Metro passes to classrooms for field trips during off-peak hours. The proposal appears to be a win-win, as students in the "cash-strapped" LAUSD get a chance to travel to some of the many fun and educational places in Los Angeles and get a chance to do so via public transit.

NIMBY’s in Westwood Threaten Wilshire BRT Project West of Beverly Hills (Quote from the BRU added, 12:31 P.M.)
Westsiders like to complain that for years their part of the city has been left out when it comes to transit expansion. Now that Metro is proposing three high-profile transit projects, a rampant strain of NIMBYism is endangering all three in one form or another.

Councilman Smith on Wilbur Road Diet: Bike Lanes Safe, Road Diet Under Scrutiny
The surprise appearance of a Road Diet and new bike lanes on Wilbur Ave earlier this year caused quite a stir. In addition to the roar from local drivers, the LADOT's outreach process has come under such fire from the local Councilman, that he proposed new laws that would require the neighborhood approval before any transportation project was completed on a local street.
