Showdown Becomes Slowdown: North Figueroa Street Project Drags On
In the latest installment in the fight for bike lanes on North Figueroa, North East Los Angeles communities found themselves at yet another community meeting organized by Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo at Franklin High School in Highland Park. These community meetings have been literally dragging on and it looks like they will continue to drag on for the foreseeable future until Cedillo finally decides on a course of action.

Just How Great Will Those Great Streets Initiative Sites Become?
Yesterday and today, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the sites for his Great Streets Initiative. The mayor's Streets initiative now has an initial budget of $800,000. SBLA previewed six of these Great Streets announced during Garcetti's State of the City address. The full list now includes 15 street segments, one per City Council District. Rest in Peace, Lindsey Miller
When I first met Lindsey Miller, she was applying for a new position writing about Santa Monica for Streetsblog Los Angeles. I googled her beforehand, and found out that the bright, energetic, and intelligent young woman was also sick. Very sick. She even had a website covering her ongoing battle with cancer.

Bike Week 2014 Kick-Off, LACBC Reports Bike Counts Are Up
Los Angeles' Bike Week 2014 kicked off at a press event this morning at Union Station. Metro Deputy Chief Executive Officer Lindy Lee welcomed assembled cyclists and media. Lee expressed enthusiasm about Los Angeles' bikeway facilities, now with "more miles than ever before." She invited cyclists to take advantage of free rides on Metro bus and rail for this Thursday's Bike to Work Day. There are also free rides on Metrolink and various local transit providers; see Metro's the Source for free ride instructions. Metro is hosting and co-hosting numerous Bike Week events, including a Wednesday ride and Bike Night at Union Station this Friday.

Fight for Figueroa Bike Lanes Heats Up at Community Meeting
If there's one thing that was made clear from yesterday's community meeting for the proposed bike lanes on North Figueroa, it's that Councilman Gil Cedillo is going to continue dragging his feet on whether or not the Highland Park community is going to get bike lanes.
