Our Friend, The Transportation Engineer
I once read a book about the history of transportation engineers as the arch enemy of the transportation reformer. While it is true that the idea that we can build highways until congestion went away can be traced back to many of the top transportation engineers during the Eisenhower Presidency, but that was half a century ago. Today, many engineers are also reformers and there’s a lot we can work together on.

Americans prefer Smart Growth to New Roads…
A new poll by Smart Growth America shows that nationwide the tide is turning against road widening projects and other forms of highway capacity enhancement. Just over one in five respondents thought that the best way to fight congestion was to add more lanes, while 3/4 of the respondents preferred more funding for transit and development patterns that favored walking and biking.
