LAPD Outlines How to Report a Bike Crash or Theft
It's a story we've heard too often. A cyclist is riding legally down the street, when out of nowhere, blam! For some reason, a car slams into the bicycle for reasons unknown. The car speeds off (or the driver waits, it doesn't matter), and the bloody cyclist rises to his feet, calls 911, and for whatever reason, the police won't take a report. The driver who caused the accident gets off free as a bird. The cyclist is left to his own devices to take care of his own problems.

Happy Second Birthday, Eastside Bike Club
This Saturday, the Eastside Bicycle Club turns two with a big party planned for its second birthday party at Lincoln Park from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. The event will feature a pair of concurrent bike rides, the handing out of the "Golden Crank" awards, an all-afternoon barbeque and a fireworks show. A fireworks show? Nice.

Via the LADOT Bike Blog comes the news cyclists and community activists have been waiting for: The Department of City Planning and LADOT will finally be releasing the final draft of the Bike Plan, a mere half a year behind schedule. Sources at LADOT have told me to expect the new plan to appear at labikeplan.org later today. The Bike Blog offers a preview of some of the differences we can expect between the much-panned draft released last summer and the new version:

Federal Bike-Ped Funding Sets New High, With Much More Room to Grow
Federal funding for pedestrian and bicycle projects reached a new high last year, according to a report released yesterday by the Federal Highway Administration.
In terms of dollars, federal investment in walking and biking more than
doubled compared to the previous high, set in 2007, thanks largely to
an infusion of $400 million in stimulus funds.
