Safe and Comfortable Access for All

From January-March 2011, BEING PEDESTRIAN teams up with HABEAS LOUNGE, a mobile space designated for civic reflection created by Linda Pollack. Together we are offering a series of walks and post-walk discussions to community groups living and working in Downtown Los Angeles’ South Park neighborhood.

About The Transit Coalition: The Transit Coalition is a 501[c](3) non-profit whose goal is to increase Transit Options and Mobility in Southern California by mobilizing citizens to press for sensible public policy to grow our bus and rail network

Thanks to the efforts of the bike corral's advocates, including Matt Schodorf (co-owner of the Cafe de Leche, where the corral will be located), City Councilmember Jose Huizar, and the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, the first ever bike corral in Los Angeles will finally be open for public use!

Ok, so the week after Valentine's day, this guy who's a student at UCLA (that's me!) wants to ride his bike to drop his sweetheart off at the airport. He doesn't wanna sit in 405 traffic, or take 3 trains and a shuttle to get there. Problem is, transportation planners, in all their wisdom didn't forsee of anyone ever wanting to do that. As a result it's kind of dangerous to ride a bike to LAX because the approaches are basically set up like freeways. Given that car-centricity, it's no surprise that 85% of all ground trips to LAX are made by cars, with all the pollution and congestion that comes with that (the majority of those trips are people getting dropped off and picked up, creating 4 trips total and 4 times the pollution)!

CicLAvia will roll on the streets of Los Angeles three times in 2011. The route will be more-or-less the same as 10-10-10, with expansion to South L.A., Boyle Heights, and/or Chinatown as CicLAvia works with these communities and gets the new extensions ready and permitted – most likely in October. Below are the dates - click on a date to link to the event page on Facebook – invite friends and spread the word!
