California Traffic Control Devices Committee Approves New Design for Spring Street Green Buffered Bike Lane
Last week, the California Traffic Control Devices Committee approved the "compromise" design for the Spring Street Green Buffered Bike Lane. The CTCD was the last body that needed to approve the design.

When Antonio Villaraigosa discussed his plans to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles in his 2005 campaign for mayor, he often used the term "Manhattanization" as short hand for his density and community building plans. Both Manhattan and Downtown Los Angeles underwent their share of positive changes in the past eight years, but it took until the mayor's last hours in office for the city to truly embrace Manhattanizing one of its main corridors.

The Downtown Los Angeles Livability Wars: Outdoor Seating
In recent months, Downtown Los Angeles, and especially Spring Street, have become ground zero for the battle over creating a Livable city. As the urban core densifies and diversifies, the older way of doing things keeps butting up against a evolving, truly urban, community. This is reflected in dustups over bike lanes, but also in easier-to-fix issues, such as the recent dustups over outdoor seating.

In the Wake of the Times’ Editorial, Our Challenge to Film L.A.
Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times weighed in on the debate over whether or not the city should, or shouldn't,repaint the fading Spring Street Green Buffered Bike Lane. The editorial calls for the lane to be repainted, but only after the city tries to find a shade of green that works for the filming industry per their representatives at Film L.A.
