Halloween in Boyle Heights Goes Late Into The Night
A costumed Captain America along with other trick-or-treaters were resting at George's Burgers on Cesar Chavez, young costumed witches were walking with their parents on the dimly lit Whittier Boulevard, and on First Street people in front of Andy's Gift Shop near the Soto Street Gold Line Station were giving out free popcorn. Even though I arrived around 8 p.m. and expecting not to catch much, Halloween in Boyle Heights was far from being done.

Taco Truck’s Reasonably Priced Eats, Quality Brings Life to Abandoned Lot on Olympic Boulevard
On the eastern stretch of Olympic Boulevard--where Boyle Heights meets East L.A. amidst run-down industrial buildings--lies Tacos “El Capitan,” a local institution that happens to be in the form of an old-school taco truck parked inside of a dilapidated parking lot.

Block Party in South Boyle Heights Closes Street For Rare Outdoor Fun
Just off the beaten path enough to not disrupt local traffic, the Boyle Heights Block Party was held Sunday, October 21, 2012 on 7th Street and Euclid. While Euclid remained open to traffic between Whittier and 8th, a portion of 7th was closed for passersby, information tables, recreation, and booths providing educational material. In addition, Sunrise Elementary opened their parking lot to the event and hosted the food and live music.

Listening to Roosevelt High School students' presentation on their Halloween-themed events to promote the Yash la Casa and Ramirez Meat Markets' recent offering of healthy food options, there was no mention of how the public would get there.

Incumbents Lose Seats, New Faces Win Big at Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council Elections
More than 300 people voted in this year's Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council elections -- three percent of the Boyle Heights population -- making it the first election since it was almost decertified a year ago.

Passersby on the CicLAvia Eastside route on Sunday could have gone away seeing either a vibrant party, a vacant corridor, or both. But what passersby wouldn’t have seen were the automobiles towed during the road closures for the car-free event.

Developers and Proponents of New Wyvernwood Face Off at Special Forum Held by Council Member Huizar
City Council Member Jose Huizar, who represents Boyle Heights, East L.A. and parts of the Downtown, held a community meeting with the current residents of Wyvernwood Apartments to hear their concerns regarding the proposed redevelopment project to replace the current apartment with a higher-cost mixed-use housing development. In 2011, Huizar expressed concern with the project, but last night seemed more neutral while listening to the 200 residents in attendance.
