Developers and Proponents of New Wyvernwood Face Off at Special Forum Held by Council Member Huizar
City Council Member Jose Huizar, who represents Boyle Heights, East L.A. and parts of the Downtown, held a community meeting with the current residents of Wyvernwood Apartments to hear their concerns regarding the proposed redevelopment project to replace the current apartment with a higher-cost mixed-use housing development. In 2011, Huizar expressed concern with the project, but last night seemed more neutral while listening to the 200 residents in attendance.

Competing Visions for 6th Street Viaduct “Iconic,” but Residents’ Concerns More Practical
"This is an era, a new chapter, a new opportunity to do something different," said Mayor Antonio Villaragosa of plans to rebuild the 6th Street Viaduct. Replacing the crumbling bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects on the city's plans for the next couple of years, and there's no shortage of big visions.

El Mercado del Pueblo Opens in Boyle Heights
El Mercardo del Pueblo, or the neighborhood market, opened Saturday after months of work securing a path for street vendors to vend legally. East Los Angeles Community Corporation organizers helped street vendors get permits, certificates, and undergo inspections in order to sell at the market, which was located at Hollenbeck Middle School.
