Gabe Klein to Resign From Chicago DOT at End of Month
With two and a half years of service under his belt as Chicago's transportation commissioner -- not to mention 300 bike-share stations -- Gabe Klein announced that he will be resigning at the end of November.

Jaime De La Vega Out at LADOT
Moments ago, the Mayor's Office announced that Jaime De La Vega will no longer serve as General Manager of the Department of Transportation. Jon Kirk Mukri, the General Manager for Recreation and Parks will serve as interim General Manager for LADOT while a permanent replacement is sought.

"The rank and file has lost confidence in our general manager," thundered Mike Hunt, an LADOT engineer and "proud" SEIU Union Steward. "He doesn't listen to us. He ridicules us every chance he gets. He puts the blame on us for doing our job, and implementing the policies he put forth for us."

People St: Garcetti and LADOT Declare Streets Are for People, Offer Help Re-Purposing Wasted Asphalt
Last week's media-friendly launch of the Great Streets Program overshadowed another announcement that could have a far greater impact on how Los Angeles thinks about streets and public space. The city also announced the launch of People St (as in People Street), a program that will allow residents, business owners and non-profits to ask for and plan projects that convert portions of the street to bike corrals, parklets or plazas.

LADOT Looking for More Partners for Walk to School Day
The city has put together an easy to use website for Walk to School week for people looking to either create or participate in a program. You don't have to be a teacher or administrator to set up a walk (although you do to set up a larger event). To register your event, click here.
