Why Are State Senators Holding Up Indianapolis’s Transit Plans?
In Indianapolis, like many American regions, some important changes to transportation policy are off-limits without approval from the state government. In the case of a proposed transit funding package that would raise revenue through a 0.3 percent income tax levy, that means a bill needs to get through the statehouse before the people of Indianapolis can even vote on whether they want to expand the bus and rail network.

Colorado, Figueroa, Lankershim, Westwood…Checking in on the Bike Wars
As LADOT and City Planning continue outreach over proposals for bike lanes and road diets in the city's bike plan, opposition has sprung up from entrenched community activists and business owners and at least one stoner. As LADOT wraps up this round of outreach, Streetsblog checks in on the status of the bicycle projects along three of Los Angeles' iconic corridors: Lankershim, Colorado, and Westwood.

Memories of Julian Burke
Kudos to the Los Angeles Times for its excellent obituary memorializing former Metro CEO Julian Burke.
His tenure was during the period when I actually attended Metro Board meetings. These days I figure between Steve Hymon of The Source, Laura Nelson of the Los Angeles Times and our own Damien Newton you don't have to attend to know the scuttlebutt about what happened. Albeit I do read selected staff reports for agenda items to educate myself.

Streetfacts: Americans Are Driving Less
We continue our Streetfacts series by looking at the data on driving in the U.S. Per-capita driving has declined every year since 2005. That's not a blip, it's now an 8-year trend.
