BRU: How About a Stimulus for Bus Riders?
This morning, the Bus Rider's Union, including members from South and East L.A., and civic leaders from Koreatown gathered to ask the MTA to support the
BRU's Clean Air and Economic Justice Plan. Their plan calls for increased funding and expansion of Metro's bus fleet and a rollback fo the 2007 fare hike by using Measure R and federal stimulus dollars over time. They also pointed out that while Metro staff had released a report earlier in the week that called for some short-term improvements, there was also language in the report that called for fare hikes in the next couple of years and long-term cuts in bus service as different rail projects come online.

USDOT Takes Community Focus with Them on the Road
Over at NYC Streetsblog, Ben Fried reports that the "Livable Streets Vibe" that's coming out of Washington is becoming part of how President Obama's USDOT presents itself when it takes its act on the road. Reporting from the New York Metropolitan Council's annual meeting, Fried caught Vice Admiral Thomas Barrett, Deputy Secretary at U.S. DOT talking about the role that USDOT can take in creating stronger communities:

Palmdale Pol Wants to Take One of L.A.’s Metro Board Slots
Assemblyman Steve DeKnight (R-Palmdale) has introduced legislation that would strip one of Los Angeles' seats on the Metro Board and instead have it rotate annually between the cities of Lancaster, Palmdale and Santa Clarita. Currently, the Mayor of Los Angeles appoints three members to the Metro Board to represent the city in addition to himself. DeKnight claims that this change is needed because:
