The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog L.A.

Starting next week, drivers who park in bus lanes will be automatically ticketed. It’s the new Bus Lane Enforcement program, a collaboration between Metro and LADOT. On-bus cameras will document parking violations, starting Monday on Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. Citations cost $293! The good news is that already – just during the past couple months of warning tickets – fewer drivers are parking in bus lanes, so buses are faster and more reliable.

There’s a new pocket park due to open in the city of Baldwin Park next year. It’s named after Ana Montenegro, a high school Spanish teacher and former City Treasurer.

Yesterday’s council committee Measure HLA votes were postponed. Tonight at 6 p.m. there will be a virtual meeting on proposed minimum bus, walk, and bike improvements triggered by HLA.
