Welcome to Our New Design
If
you are a regular visitor then you've probably noticed that we made
some design changes yesterday afternoon. The transition went off
without a hitch thanks to The Open Planning Project's Anil Makhijani, Andy Cochran and Rob Marianski.
I just wanted to take a moment to walk you through the new design and
provide another opportunity for feedback here in the comments section.

Install a Widget. Build a Movement.
Today we are launching the Streetsblog Network "Action Widget." The Streetsblog Network,
as you may already know, is a collection of about 200 bloggers from all
around the United States who focus on livable streets, sustainable
transport and smart growth issues, usually with a local focus.

Streetsblog Is Back and Looking Forward to 2009
Let's face it, the end of 2008 presented a lot of bad signs that hopefully won't be carrying over to the New Year. President-Elect Obama seems to be pushing a stimulus plan that would poor billions into road projects and much less into transit or other green transportation and locally the streets are getting less safe for cyclists and pedestrians.

LSN Member of the Week: Mr. Theo
Let's
give a warm Streetsblog welcome to Mr. Theo, the newest member of the
Livable Streets Network. You may recognize Theo as the star of the
Louisville, Kentucky transit system's YouTube hit, "Bikes-on-Board."
Sure, some LSN members will criticize him for uploading a photo of
himself standing next to a vehicle that gets about 7 miles per gallon
and runs on leaded fuel. But give the man some credit for supporting
urban infrastructure investment; his personal web site is BigDiggity.com. If you're looking for a transit-oriented M.C. in the River City area, Mr. Theo is for hire.

Who Should Streetsblog Interview Next?
As longtime readers have doubtless noticed, when I travel I try to fill the space on Streetsblog with guest posts or interviews. To that end, I'm hoping that all of you have some suggestions of interesting people to interview. I can conduct the interview online, such as the interview posted last week with C.I.C.L.E.'s Liz Elliott or in person such as the interview with author Erik Knutzen.

Calling All Writers…LA Streetsblog Needs Your Help
I'm going to be out of town from Thursday, October 9, until Tuesday October 14 and won't have Internet access. In the past, we've featured a series of opinion pieces and personal stories to help fill the gap in my absence. Some of those stories have included a transportation engineer's first trip to the Staples Center, a pastor's views on the spirituality of biking and a lesson on why congestion is good by LACBC Board Member Kent Strumpell.
