Transpo. Committee Debates Cyclist Anti-Harassment Ordinance Tomorrow
A new ordinance that gives cyclists broader legal options after being harassed, assaulted or just run-down, heads to the City Council Transportation Committee for review before heading to the Full City Council tomorrow afternoon. Bill Rosendahl has been championing such an ordinance since at least 2009, and now it seems close to becoming a reality. If passed, this ordinance would be the first of its kind in the nation.

Name the SR-710 Extension Moves to the Final Page, But How Much Will It Cost?
Last week's poll asking you to vote on what name L.A. Streetsblog will use to describe the 710 Extension Project was easily Streetsblog's most popular poll to date, with 252 total votes. Two project names got sixty votes each to move on to this final poll. One week from today, either Art Dean's "Golden Freight Freeway" or Joanne Nuckols' "SR-710, L.A.'s Big Dig" will become the official name that Streetsblog uses to describe the project from here on out.

Metro Board Wrap: If Measure R Projections Are Down, What Happens to Projects When Funds Run Out?
During today's debate over whether or not to approve a "life of the project" budget for Phase II of the Expo Line, County Supervisor Gloria Molina used the occasion to quiz Metro staff on new projections for Measure R revenue. Originally, the half-cent county-wide sales tax was projected to produce $40 billion in revenue over thirty years. However, in large part due to the Great Recession and high local unemployment rates, that projection has dropped 10% in two and a half years to $36 billion.

Lowenthal Introduces Senate Bill That Could Become Three Foot Passing Law
Last week, Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) introduced S.B. 910, which seeks to define what a "safe distance" is for a motorist to pass a cyclist. While the language of the bill may seem innocuous at first read, Lowenthal's staff says the current draft of the bill is a placeholder for what will most likely become a "3-Feet Passing Law."
