Downey Ride & Stride 2 – Open Streets Open Thread
Yesterday, Streetsblog had the pleasure of participating in the city of Downey's second open streets festival, Downey Ride & Stride 2017. The event closed several Downey Streets to car traffic, and opened them to families, bicyclists, runners, pedestrians and much more. It was funded by Metro's open streets grant program and sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and Verizon

CicLAvia XIX ‘Heart of Los Angeles’ – Open Thread
The 19th iteration of L.A.'s popular open streets festival, CicLAvia, touched down yesterday in central Los Angeles. The "Heart of Los Angeles" route included Boyle Heights, the downtown Arts District, Little Tokyo, Civic Center, Chinatown, historic Broadway, Central City West, and MacArthur Park. The weather was perfect for bicycling and walking: cool and cloudy, with no rain.

Metro Moving Forward With $4 Million For 17 Open Streets
Today, Metro's Planning and Programming Committee approved $4.04 million for 17 L.A. County open streets events to take place through December 2018. The full Metro board of directors is expected to approve the open streets program funding at its meeting next Thursday.

CicLAvia No.18 Iconic Wilshire Boulevard – Open Thread
The eighteenth iteration of CicLAvia touched down on a three-mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard yesterday. The Wilshire route extended from Grand Avenue in downtown L.A. to Western Avenue in Koreatown. Organizers had hoped for a longer route, but Metro Purple Line construction has closed a couple of Miracle Mile Wilshire intersections for multiple weekends, so extending further west was not feasible.
