On Bike/Ped. Count Day, Bonin Introduces Motion Demanding Better Bike/Ped Data from the City
During last year's Park(ing) Day, City Council Members Jose Huizar and Jan Perry announced a city-wide parklet initiative. Following that lead, current Council Member Mike Bonin announced a new motion requiring better data collection after spending the morning volunteering with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition/Los Angeles Walks counting bikes and walkers.

LADOT Plans for Bike Lanes, Improved Crossings and Road Diet on Virgil Avenue
Tonight, the LADOT will present a proposal for a half mile of bike lanes and road diet on Virgil Avenue between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. Currently, Virgil Avenue has four mixed-use travel lanes, two parking lanes, and sidewalks. After the diet, there will be two mixed-use lanes, a turn lane, two 5 foot bike lanes and the sidewalk area.

California Traffic Control Devices Committee Approves New Design for Spring Street Green Buffered Bike Lane
Last week, the California Traffic Control Devices Committee approved the "compromise" design for the Spring Street Green Buffered Bike Lane. The CTCD was the last body that needed to approve the design.

It Is Easy Being Green…for the 1st Street Bike Lane in Boyle Heights
In contrast to the uproar over the repainting of Downtown's green bike lane; Spring's sister bike lane on 1st Street on the Eastside has proven quietly effective, at least according to anecdotal evidence and utterly uncontroversial.
