LADOT: Halloween a Good Time to Teach Kids to Walk Safe
Last year, I complained that Los Angeles didn't write out it's own pedestrian safety tips for Halloween. This year an LADOT press release not only lists some helpful, yet common-sense, suggestions; but also uses the holiday to push parents to better educate their children about safe walking. After listing all of their suggestion, the press release quotes LADOT General Manager Rita Robinson:

Council Wants TOD Plans for Future Green Line Extension
Nearly a year after legislation was first introduced that would study the opportunities to create Transit Oriented Development near the transit stations that might exist if and when the Green Line is extended to LAX and beyond. The resolution, introduced by Bill Rosendahl will be heard at the Transportation Committee tomorrow.

Bike Unfriendly Place of the Week: Downtown Government Buildings?
As part of the Bike Unfriendly Place of the Week, one reader suggested I look at the Downtown governmental buildings that all of us, especially transportation reform advocates, visit somewhat regularly. This week, we'll look at Los Angeles City Hall, the Caltrans building and Metro Headquarters. All three buildings have bike racks, but as we know, not all bike racks are created equal.

DIY Lanes on Fletcher Bridge Already a Memory
Last week, MetBlogs reported that some enterprising souls took it upon themselves to improve the city's bike network by adding their own lanes to the Fletcher Bridge that runs over the Los Angeles River. The Do It Yourself, aka DIY, Lanes lasted less than half a week as the DOT saw to their quick removal. Apparently, in Los Angeles it takes well over a decade to construct the projects in a Bike Master Plan, but a couple of days to remove vigilante bike lanes.
