The California Bicycle Coalition warmly invites you to our Los Angeles Better Bikeways fundraising party. Generously hosted by RAC DESIGN BUILD, that can be easily accessed from the LA River bike path to event - which is located between the Fletcher and Riverside entrances of the river path - closer to the Fletcher entrance. The LA House Party will be on Saturday, May 31st from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Join us on another fun and historical Long Beach tour on the morning ofSunday, June 1st! We'll ride through the neighborhoods of Poly High, Cambodia Town, Zaferia, Coronado Design District, and Rose Park - past V.I.P. Records, the Long Beach Firefighters Museum, Homeland Cultural Center, Orizaba Park, and more, and hear a little bit about each hood from some locals. We'll stop in the plaza of a Cambodian Temple and end at Siem Reap Cambodian Restaurant. Each person pays for their own lunch - lunch is not included in the ride. The 7-mile ride is slow-paced and will reach Siem Reap by 12 noon.

When I first met Lindsey Miller, she was applying for a new position writing about Santa Monica for Streetsblog Los Angeles. I googled her beforehand, and found out that the bright, energetic, and intelligent young woman was also sick. Very sick. She even had a website covering her ongoing battle with cancer.

It's not supposed to be this way.

The Los Angeles Press Club announced about half of the finalists for awards at its annual banquet. Thus far, Streetsblog Los Angeles' staff is nominated for three awards. We are still awaiting word on five other nominations (two more for Sahra Sulaiman, one for me, one for Brian Addison and Streetsblog Los Angeles itself as "best blog).

There's some big stuff on this pre-holiday week. The two biggest things are clearly the "Ride of Silence" and the Metro Board meeting.
