Lowenthal Introduces Senate Bill That Could Become Three Foot Passing Law
Last week, Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) introduced S.B. 910, which seeks to define what a "safe distance" is for a motorist to pass a cyclist. While the language of the bill may seem innocuous at first read, Lowenthal's staff says the current draft of the bill is a placeholder for what will most likely become a "3-Feet Passing Law."

BREAKING NEWS Neighbors for Smart Rail Legal Petition to Force New Environmental Review for the Expo Line Is Denied
Back in December, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Thomas McKnew issued a preliminary ruling to dismiss the lawsuit brought by a coalition of Westside homeowner and community groups fighting Phase II of the Expo Line, which will complete the connection from Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Santa Monica. Last night, McKnew it official and denied the lawsuit brought by Neighbors for Smart Rail. Expo backer Gökhan Esirgen sent out an email last night celebrating the ruling and commenting that, "This was the only major remaining legal hurdle facing the Expo Line."

Two Camps Have Formed on Wilbur Ave. Road Diet, LADOT Compromise Plan Kept Under Wraps
Late last year, Councilman Greig Smith and the LADOT convened a four-part Wilbur Working Group to address the concerns created when the LADOT re-striped Wilbur Avenue last August. The "new" Wilbur features two mixed-use traffic lanes, two bike lanes, and a turning lane. The "old" Wilbur had four mixed-use traffic lanes.
