This plan is an update to the County's adopted Plan of Bikeways
(1975) and a sub-element to the General Plan.The plan seeks to
encourage the use of bicycles as a general means of transportation,
ensure the safety of bicycle users, and provide guidelines for the
development, expansion, and implementation of the County's bicycle
infrastructure.

Somebody Walks in L.A.: A Brooklynite Writing for GOOD Magazine
For those that have missed it GOOD Magazine is running a series by Ryan Bradley about walking in Los Angeles. Bradley, a Brooklyn resident, basically sets down at LAX and heads out to conquer the city by foot. Once you get past the idea that a progressive online publication can just drop a New Yorker off in L.A. and expect them to write intelligently about our transportation issues, you discover that Bradley has some interesting things to say.

All Aboard for National Rail Symposium in Long Beach
As the LA
area slowly inches toward having a viable rail network, we occasionally
need to be reminded of the tremendous benefits passenger rail can have
for our region. And we'll have a great opportunity to do so next week,
when the 2010 Community Transportation EXPO comes to Long
Beach. The conference is presented by the Community Transportation Association, a prestigious
DC based transit advocacy group.

Four House Republicans Join Dems in Hailing LaHood’s Support for Bike-Ped
Four House Republicans yesterday joined 24 Democratic colleagues in a
letter praising Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood for his public
support of federal bicycling and pedestrian investment -- a stance that
had generated some bad blood between LaHood and the trucking industry.

The Weekend in Livable Streets Events
Because I skipped doing the "Week in Livable Streets Events," I missed writing about some of the events that are going on this weekend. In addition to the Bike to Work Week events in Pasadena, Culver City, and Glendale tomorrow; there are a couple of events this weekend that deserve a little more attention than the calendar section.
