New York’s Game Changer, Janette Sadik-Khan, Will Visit L.A. This March
Occidental College's UEPI Blog announced earlier this morning that this year's keynote speaker for the Bike Summit will be none other than New York City's Livable Streets Hero Janette Sadik-Khan. For those of you that have never read the original Streetsblog or any of my New York-related stories; Sadik-Khan rose to be Commissioner of NYCDOT and immediately changed the department's goals from car-culture defenders to Portland-esque urban planners.

The Gold Line Is Open, Post Your Stories Here
The reviews are in on yesterday's opening of the Gold Line: the day was a rousing success. Press accounts were universally positive. Sometimes they focused on what a glorious and succesful day yesterday was by itself. Other times they took a more universal view. I wasn't at the opening, I'll make a point to ride the line during business hours sometime in the next two weeks, but I know you were so feel free to fill the comments section with your stories and opinions from yesterday's Golden party.

No “Today’s Headlines” Today
Because I had to get up early to take part in the Gold Line Eastside Safety Ride, there won't be any activity on Streetsblog until this afternoon. When I get home I'll syndicate some stories from the other Streetsblogs then write up the ride report. Most likely, that will be the only original piece of writing done for LA Streetsblog today.

SCAG and City of Los Angeles Thinking About Solutions to the Last Mile Problem
It's not often that we cover news out of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), but a recent study funded by the City of Los Angeles and SCAG on the "last mile" problem has led to a report sponsored by the city that is all about getting people out of their cars. The report was presented by LADOT Chief Rita Robinson and Planning General Manager Gail Goldberg at a meeting this morning, then again by SCAG to regional stakeholders this afternoon.

Which is the Fastest-Rising U.S. Emissions Source: Transport or Electricity?
The climate change bills being considered by Congress treat electric utilities very well, giving more than a third
of the revenue generated by CO2 regulation away -- for free -- to power
providers. This move pleased coal country Democrats while seeking to lock down benefits for consumers by averting electricity rate hikes.
