Breaking News: Rosendahl, Koretz to Assume Transportation Committee Leadership
Tucked away in his story on the removal of the Reseda Boulevard Bike Lane Ted Rogers broke the news on the new leadership of the City Council Transportation Committee. As of September 1st, Bill Rosendahl will take over the Chairmanship and new Councilman Paul Koretz will serve as Vice Chair. After reading Rogers' article, I confirmed the future appointment with Rosendahl's office.

DOT Working to Remove Reseda Blvd. Bike Lane
Ted Rogers, who's Biking In LA blog should be required reading for L.A. cyclists, has discovered a plot in the Valley to take out a Bike Lane on Resedal Blvd., along with street parking, to double the car-capacity of the road at rush hour. Apparently, traffic engineers in the West Valley Department of Transportation decided that not enough cyclists use the lane to justify its existance.

of pursuing a "New Starts" funding agreement with the U.S. DOT, local
transit officials are often at the mercy of cost-benefit calculations
that have failed to keep pace with evolutions in transport planning.
But one aspect of that slog could soon change, thanks to Sen. Patty
Murray (D-WA).

New ‘Clunkers’ Analysis: Trucks, SUVs More Popular Than Suggested
When the Obama administration first called for more "cash for clunkers" last week, two influential senators said they could not back an extension without stronger efficiency standards for the program's trade-ins -- only to drop their opposition after viewing U.S. DOT sales figures that showed buyers snapping up gas-sipping cars.

Another DIY Story: Bike Coaltion Doing Their Own Bike Counts
In yet another example of our bike culture's Do It Yourself ethic, the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition is planning to do its own bike counts to paint a clearer picture of how many people travel by bicycle in Los Angeles. Bike counts are a necessary feature of any well thought Bike Plan so that the planners and engineers can place the right sorts of engineering designs at the right places.
