In 2006, the City of Los Angeles opened the Urban Design Studio in the Planning Department to create what the LA Downtown News referred to as "Special Places" but what Streetsbloggers would call Livable Streets. Basically the studio, which currently consists of two full-time staff members and many volunteer interns, was responsible for turning Los Angeles into a beautiful city.

LADOT: A Mile of New Reseda Boulevard Bike Lanes in September
At last night's meeting of the Northridge East Neighborhood Council (NENC,) the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) announced their plans to install nearly a mile of new bike lanes on Reseda Boulevard in September 2009. The announcement was made by LADOT's Principal Transportation Engineer for Valley Traffic Operations, Alan Willis. The new bikeway will extend from Devonshire Street to San Fernando Mission Road.

As “Cash for Clunkers” Sputters, a Privately Funded Spinoff Picks Up
The U.S. DOT began signaling yesterday that it would bring the "cash for clunkers" program to an end amid growing unease from auto dealers about the government's slow pace of reimbursement and General Motors' decision to begin fronting "clunkers" repayments to its own salesmen.
